Day 62 ~ Albuquerque, NM to Cortez, Colorado

Feeling rested is such a wonderful feeling!  John and I both got up early this morning feeling pretty darn good!  Seemed like we needed some rest from all the driving we have been doing, and of course the time zones keep changing on us.

What a beautiful drive today!  Good roads, light traffic and not a cloud in the sky.  We drove as far as Gallup, New Mexico and decided to pull over and give the boys a good break.  While John was walking them I jumped in the 5th wheel and made us some scrambled eggs and sausage for breakfast.  After we finished our little morning break, the strangest thing came about.  Both dogs started to growl and then we noticed this grungy man just standing by our RV.  We were in the middle of a Safeway parking lot thinking we'd be okay there, but oh no, this man just kept getting closer to the door of the fifth wheel.  He approached us and John told him to step back, we have dogs and we didn't want the dogs to bite him.  This guy then asked John for some money, he was either homeless or just broke out of prison!  It really bothered me.  When the man walked away, he just kept looking back at our vehicle.  It just felt creepy! Sure glad I bought John that Ruger LC9 for his birthday.

We left Gallup as soon as we could!  We noticed on this drive there were a lot of people just walking along the road.  We also noticed the signs along the way "DO NOT PICK UP HITCH~HIKERS, Prison in vicinity!  Yikes! What was sad were then number of dead dogs on the side of the road. We also saw what we thought was a black dog and it turned out to be a small black bear that had been killed when trying to cross the double lane road.

It was a smooth highway from Gallup to Cortez.  Before we knew it, we were at the Sundance RV Park and all set up.  Great park, close to everything!

We had a small lunch then headed to the Four Corners.  Cool place...I was in 4 states all at the same time!  AZ, CO, NM, UT.  There were a lot of local artists there and we walked around to see their creations.  We left and went back to camp where John washed the fifth wheel while I did laundry.

It really was a fun and relaxing day today.  Our day tomorrow should be a blast!

Leaving New Mexico....Early AM!

On The Road Again....  Another 300 miles!

Pretty Colors along the way!

We are thinking about making a trade?

  1. Hey, who needs an LC9 when you have two locked and loaded Yellow Labs! Reminds me of Cayman when she ran that guy away from Mom and Dad's.

Either way I'm glad you guys are OK.
